AAC Connect Barley

AAC Connect is a malting barley variety with a high yield, short strong straw, and the best FHB resistance in its class. Possess a similar malting quality to AC Metcalfe barley.

CDC Churchill 

CDC Churchill is a type of barley that has a high yield and is strong. It is an excellent choice as a feed or malting barley and will compete head-to-head with the best 2-row malt and feed barleys for yield and agronomics. CDC Churchill has low enzyme activity making it ideally suited to for malt brewing. It is widely adapted across the Canadian Prairies and is presently undergoing market development trials with maltsters and brewers. It has moderately resistant to stem rust, netted net blotch, and spotted net blotch. It is moderately susceptible to FHB and loose smut, and susceptible to scald.

Feed / Forage Barley

We choose forage and feed barley varieties based on their tonnage and/or total seed yield per acre. In our experience we have found the following barley grain varieties to meet the proper criteria and quality for us to promote. Below is our list of feed barley seed varieties:

CDC Austenson Barley

CDC Austenson is a 2-row feed barley variety that produces great yields with a short strong straw and large plump kernels. It is resistant to stem rust and covered and false loose smut.  

AB Advantage - FORAGE BARLEY

AB Advantage is a 6 row feed and forage barley variety that produces an excellent grain yield with good agronomic performance. Good resistance to lodging and good straw strength.

EXPECTED RELEASE 2025 is a 2-row feed barley variety that produces an excellent grain yield with good agronomic performance. It has a chance to knock the raining king of feed barley "CDC Austenson" from its spot. Keep an eye on this barley over the next few year. We are excited to offer this variety!

How long does it take for barley to grow?

Feed and Malt Barley seed take on average 91 days to mature according to the 2018 Sask Seed Guide . The guide uses AC Metcalfe, a SeCan malt barley variety, as the check. 

How do you germinate barley seed?

Steps to Germinating Barley Seed:

  1. Wet a paper towel and lay if flat on a tray.
  2. Distribute the barley seed evenly over the paper towel.
  3. Wet a second paper towel sheet and lay it over the barley seeds.
  4. Over the next few days periodically add water to keep the barley moist, but not soaked.

Are oats and barley the same?

No, oats and barley are not the same crop but they are both cereal grains. In recent years, a key food difference is that oats are gluten free and barley is not.
